When To Book A Trip To The Dominican?

We are trying to plan a trip to Punta Cana and we are trying to decide when is best to book it to get a good deal without too much trouble. Should we try and book it now or risk waiting until closer to the date (by the way is mid to late Feb) for the last minute deals. There is going to be between 6 and 8 of us and we want to be sure to all be on the same flight and all get rooms close to each other in the hotel.
also do they have american style food available in the dominican?

Please don’t let some of these answers put you off, I have been to the Dominican Republic from the UK various times and have absolutely loved it. You must experience it for yourself.
Booking in advance on Portland Direct (search Google for this website) will save you ALOT of money. I always book with them and have never had any problems at all.
My personal favourite place in DR is Puerto Plata simply because in my opinion it has some of the best beaches in DR and theres tonnes more to see and do. Perhaps you could research Puerto Plata – as theres 8 of you this way you’ll have more of a choice – to reach everybodies needs.
I recommend the Riu Mambo hotel in Bahia mamon. Such a great place.. I give it 10/10. Check reviews online – nobody I know that has been have come home dispointed you feel like you’re taken a year off – they can’t do enough for you & I don’t know where a previous answerer found rude local people? In my opinion they are some of the genuinest, happiest people I have ever met in my life.
    Have a wonderful time.

Since there are 6 to 8 of you, booking last minute may not be such a good idea considering February is high season,. my suggestion, book by the end of December, once you’re booked email the resort requesting rooms near each ach other. The food at AI’s will be very international since the DR is a destination for Europeans, Canadians, Americans and others from all over the world so you will have no problem finding lots of choices to suit the American taste.

dont book it at all..i went to Punta Cana last summer and it was horrible
    the dominicans are very rude
the food is horrible (even the american food they try to create) along with their own version of “Dominican” food
the sightseeing and tours are overpriced and boring
and all the resorts offer is the beach (so if thats all your going for, i suggest going to Miami and saving a bunch of money)
please listen to me and choose another vacation spot….just trust me

dominican republic is great, been 5 times to 3 different areas. the best hotel by far was bahia principe at san juan north of island. the only problem i see you having is that the time you are stating might co-inside with half term holiday. possibly might get it cheaper booking around christmas. it does sometimes goes up after new year, look on trip adviser for information.

  • SO, Kman is correct, the trimmings, like the beaches are okay, but the hidden traps as for food and getting sick is a trap. I don’t care what anyone says I just returned 9 days ago.

Wait until after Christmas, rates for plane tickets for the holidays are ridiculous because many American living Dominicans go back home, Many Dominicans get the month off of work depending on what they do and is a big time for celebration for Navidad plane tickets are at least 500 – 800 right now, but any other time of year you can get them about 360 just make sure you do about a month ahead of time
wed night thurs mornings are when plane rates go down ive had the best luck with Spirit and then American Airlines and its been cheaper to get hotel and plane separate rather than a package every time ive gone
that said with the large group, just make sure you check with the hotel on availability but you should be ok there are plenty of hotels Or just book the hotel now and wait on the plane tickets you can usually change hotel dates without a surcharge
and every resort has american style food, and there are also taco bells and burger kinds in the cities, so you should be fine with food
a couple tips they dont refrigerate milk and cheese products, i think because they arent pasteurized so its a different taste sometimes
dont be afraid to try Dominican Food – San Cocho Soup, Rice and Beans, arepa, their food is fantastic
if you eat much outside of a resort or a nice restaurant you may want to get a typhoid vaccine before you go but thats really just a precaution like if you want to get sugar cane juice from street vendors or something like that hep b and hep a are good to have too not to scare you just different things our bodies are used to and not used to
ignore what the person who said not to go said, its beautiful, the people are wonderful, the music, the culture, the beach you will love it
anyway have fun if you have any other questions please feel free to email me
