What Happens If You Stay In A Hotel And Say That Only 2 People Are There But 3 Are?

We are taking a trip and there are 3 of us that need a total of 2 beds – it is much cheaper if you say there are only 2 people — how can they really know if a third one is staying too? In a large hotel I think it is hard to keep track of everyone and no one would notice – there are still 2 beds in there…Couldn’t we just say the last person joined us last minute long after the reservation was made and we didn’t think about it? What could/would happen? Anyone deal with this before??
thanks –
We will most likely still tell them 3 people — but i was just wondering…

They come in the night and kidnap the 3rd person. Then they make sausage out of them for the continental breakfast.

Depends upon the hotel — or motel. Motels tend to be a lot stricter on head count. Many hotels will not even ask. Usually if they do, it’s somewhere where water is a premium so they charge for the extra shower. I’d tell them you’ll have three in the room — they might charge you an extra $10, but you should get a rollaway with that.

Or, gee…you could just suck it up and behave honestly, eh? LOL…

A third person charge is usually $10. You could be charged with theft of services and a much larger fine. Do that in Arizona you could be charged with defrauding an innkeeper a felony. That state uses this one to hold such as murders indefinitely to bring bigger charges. I’ve heard of people imprisoned more than 4 years on defrauding an innkeeper.
    Are you always so dishonest?

They’ll never know unless you tell them. You can also reveal yourself by asking for three keys or an extra cot. As long as you are discreet you shouldn’t have a problem, and if you say you have a 3rd person the hotel will charge you per night for the extra person.

Just tell them 1 people are staying. A 3rd person isn’t going to cost the hotel any more money, only you. It’s not like they’re going to check on you ar anything.

It shouldn’t be a problem as long as three people don’t go up to the front desk when you check in. I have had four people stay in a room that was reserved for 2 before. Just let the two that were ‘staying’ get the rooms and carry our luggage with theirs. Then we went in a few minutes later and joined them in the lobby. Stayed for a few days with no problems.

Should the Hotel choose to file charges, it is a felony and is defrauding an Inn Keeper.
The laws in each state vary, but this is a very old law and tends to be enforced to the full extend permissible by the law on the books.
$10 bucks is pretty cheap considering…
