I was married last Friday. A very high class ceremony with all the trimmings. Anyway, a long story short:
We did all the normal stuff – speeches, dinner, 1st danceā¦. However, I will admit, I did rush through greeting / thanking all the guests so I could grab the ‘gift box’ filled with all the money envelopes.
I finished the last table & told my wife I had to use the men’s room – instead a took the box to our room and counted all the money. It was eating me alive to see how much these people gave. No family of 4 at my wedding is giving $35 and getting away with it!!
About 90 minutes later my wife and some other concerned guests found me in the hotel room. I explained what I was doing but they were very angry. They even SWORE at me!!!
I really was not gone that long & don’t think it is that big of a deal. I wanted to make sure we made a profit on the wedding.
She is still fuming mad – states she was embarrassed. What is wrong so wrong with what I did?
My dad is a doctor, and he’s a complete idiot when it comes to handling money. He’s juvenile. He doesn’t know how to handle money. He doesn’t understand the concept of it. He’s always getting himself into money problems. He won’t pay his bills if he has to do it himself, and not my mom. He runs up credit card debt all the time. I’m older, so I understand now what his problems are. Apparently, he has been getting himself into trouble when he was younger too. He almost got our house foreclosed when he quit his job to write books. He’s not crazy or anything, but I think he’s suffering from some sort of egomania. He’s the kind of person that will wait until the last possible minute to do anything, be it paying a bill or even getting a hotel room in a distant city.
I talked to a few people, and it seems many doctors are like this. I don’t get it at all. My mom is passive and is not assertive enough to get through to him. I absolutely can’t stand him anymore but I understand that any creditors would treat him differently than they would anyone else, so he probably knows he can get out of these problems easier than anyone else. He doesn’t like paying anyone back. It’s really easy for unscrupulous people to get money out of him though.
Let me put this plainly: I sympathize with his creditors. He’s not working a job or anything that will pay him enough to pay his bills. He gets boatloads of offers for better-paying jobs in the mail all the time. He probably gets calls. He’s on this hangup about becoming a reverend, and he’s working an on-call service that doesn’t pay much.
Let me put this plainly: He’s delusional about his financial situation. I really wish my mom was smart enough to leave him a long time ago, but she’s pretty passive and not that smart. He’s 60; he’s never going to be able to retire at this rate. He doesn’t get it. WTF is his goddamn problem? Why are many doctors like this? Can he ever be trusted, or learn how to handle money? He has a big ego, and a very bad temper.
Anyone dealt with idiots like him before?
