I feel like a question blogger…. ![]()
My girlfriend has never been to New York ( we live in London) and i have found a deal where we can go from 28th December to the 5th January for 1000 pounds ( flights and hotel) – i want to take her as a last minute surprise.
The hotel is pretty basic, but do you think that matters? or would you pay more? i’m just thinking the saved money can be used as spending money.
And although weather is un predictable, does anyone know what weather to expect that time? i haven’t been for a while.
thanks a lot.
Most of your points have been answered but I agree with the tripadvisor suggestion.
If it is a special occasion number one choice for that special meal is tavern on the green – must book in advance -its a magical place where the whole experience is wonderful – we did our 18th and 22nd anniversary there. Get the horse drawn buggy back to your hotel.
Have a great time.
Agree about accomodations.
A clean basic hotel is all you need & is just a place to sleep..
Since you have time, would visit NYC tourist sites .
Your London agent should be able to help also.
Always tell visitors they will find the “real” NY by just walking around &
going to the smaller cafe’s & restaurants.
Ask “locals” your age where they go for entertainment & shopping.
Weather is definitely unpredictable & can be much colder than you are used to. so prepare for the worst.
Will not need “arctic” gear but wise to bring things you can peel off like fleeces , sweaters& windbreakers for going in & out of buildings, museums etc.
Not too much of a shock for Londoners except for the size yet still easy to get around on foot.
Nice surprize .
Have a great time.
Best regards.
Sounds great! Weather is pretty cold, don’t forget your ice skates for Rockefeller center. Basic hotel is great. As the other person said, it is only for sleeping. As long as it’s clean. I wrote an article featuring the big apple greeter program available in New York City. It is a volunteer program in which you can have a local tour guide show you the best of New York, for free! I used their services and it was the highlight of our trip! Read about it here, http://www.squidoo.com/big-apple-greeter
Have a great time!
Hi Nick, My first trip to New York was memorable for many reasons, you can see a lot in a day and even the danger excites, as this city with a constant edge that pulses with life energy and noise ! I was in town for a good friends Wedding and had a great deal at the Waldorf Astoria with two other guests, Carter and Hal. The three of us split the cost of the hotel room that worked out to around $65 per night. The rental car deal was even better $12 each !

just make sure ur hotel is in a save area, yea 1000 pounds is a great deal, but u have to bring money for food and things to do, transportation, etc. a basic hotel is good but some hotels have an in door pool which could be fun if theres nothing to do b.c of the weather…..it definitily will be cold and probably snow while ur there so bring lots of warm clothes. befor you go look on goole for museums and things to do in the city that way before you leave you are prepared with what costs what.
There is so much stuff to do in NYC the hotel isn’t going to matter… Your only going to sleep there.. And chances are you are going to find so much to do that you aren’t going to be sleeping very long or be at the hotel very long anyway.. I’m sure she will be amazed.
You did mean NYC correct?
And at that time its going to be cold.. But it being such a large city.. There wont be much snow falling if any..And the buildings block the wind so it isn’t like its going to be unbearable.. And if it is a little cold back at the hotel what a perfect reason to cuddle up and make a little magic happen in good ole’ NYC =D
there are quite a few sites that you can search that will likely show you great hotels at the best prices available. check out the website BookMe and you will be able to compare prices on all the reputable travel sites in just a couple minutes. it’s very convenient and will save you a bunch of time and money. Also, make sure you buy them online… otherwise they charge much higher fees for phone orders. good luck.
mate really i believe your girl will just love going there (if it’s her first time) i don’t think she will care about the accomidation, i mean unless u plan on sitting inside your apartment all day then don’t worry u will be out seeing sites and doing other things (just make sure it’s not massively dodgy though) and i believe it is winter at that time so i would expect it to be VERY cold!
mate i can get it cheaper
go on expedia ;D for flights and hotel it was £539
dont forget to apply for the visa.
and have fun ;D me and my girlfriend are going aswell
Sounds cool, can you take me instead lol?
But as long as it decent accommodation that is bug free then it should be okay! (In a decent area too)…
Isn’t it generally freezing over Christmas in America?
Lucky girlfriend!
Be prepared for lots of snow
!!
Hello Blogger …
I would check out the hotel on Trip Advisor just to make sure that it really isn’t the pits. I always say as long as long as the hotel is clean then it doesn’t matter if it’s basic (and I’m a very picky woman believe me)
The weather is so varied at that time of year – once we arrived to frost and snow two days before New Year’s Eve and on New Year’s day we were walking around in T-shirts in Central Park. Best to go in an overcoat but take layers to wear starting with a T-shirt. (I actually took a thermal vest and thought that if it was that cold I could pop it on under my sweater). Bit of a passion killer but light to pack.
She’s a lucky girl. Enjoy!
